National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Report Identifies Opportunities to Prevent Pregnancy-Related Cardiovascular Disease and Maternal Mortality

A new press release from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine highlights a report identifying critical opportunities to prevent pregnancy-related cardiovascular disease and reduce maternal mortality in the United States, where cardiovascular conditions remain a leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths.

The report underscores that many of these deaths are preventable and calls for improved risk identification, stronger care coordination across pregnancy and the postpartum period, and a greater focus on long-term cardiovascular health.

We are proud to share that Dr. Steven M. Smith, Co-Director of the Center for Integrative Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases (CICMD), contributed to this National Academies report, supporting national efforts to advance prevention strategies and improve maternal health outcomes.
