Clintoria Williams, PhD, FAHA, is the Principal Investigator of the Kidney PathoPhysiology Research Group. Dr. Williams leads a dynamic team of students. Their paradigm-shifting research has identified cellular and molecular mechanisms driving the pathogenesis of kidney disease in the settings of zinc deficiency and chronic calcineurin inhibitor treatment. Exploitation of the underlying mechanisms that their research has identified will serve as the bedrock of new drug targets for the treatment of both kidney disease and hypertension. The therapeutic potential of these studies was recently recognized by the American Society of Nephrology and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease as worthy of receiving two multi-year awards.
