About Lisa Scarton

TEACHING

Dr. Scarton teaches both undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Her teaching and mentoring philosophy are based on her commitment to diversity and equity through ensuring future nurses are well prepared to engage in practices that promote health equity and reduce health disparities . Dr. Scarton teaches Health Promotion, Policy and Change, and Leadership and Management in Nursing.

RESEARCH

Dr. Scarton’s research focuses on reducing health disparities among American Indian populations through the development of culturally informed interventions delivered across multiple generations and designed to improve health outcomes for persons with type 2 diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes linked cancers.

SERVICE

Dr. Scarton holds memberships in Behavioral Research in Diabetes Group Exchange (BRIDGE), Sigma Theta Tau International – Alpha Chapter, and the Southern Nurses Research Society. She is co-chair for the Board of Directors of the Native Research Network and a member of the National Health Disparities Committee for the American Diabetes Association.

Dr. Scarton, a citizen of Choctaw Nation, focuses her research on reducing health disparities among American Indian populations through the development of culturally informed interventions delivered across multiple generations and designed to improve health outcomes for persons with type 2 diabetes and T2D linked cancers.
